Flipping The Hero's Script.
Flipping The Hero's Script.
Sometimes, the most explosive creative projects are lit by the smallest fuse. What began as a modest 20-second experiment with Mark Millar's 'Nemesis' comic evolved into a six-month obsession, fueled by a perfectly timed track from a friend and an unstoppable creative drive.

Ink Comes Alive
"Nemesis" is pure adrenaline on paper - a relentless action thriller that pulls no punches. Its raw energy and intense visuals demanded movement.
When I realised my friend's track synced perfectly with the comic's action-driven pacing, I knew this project wouldn't let me go until it was done. This wasn't about just making something move - it was about capturing the explosive energy contained within every panel and putting Millar's world into motion.

Breaking The Frame
Comic panels aren't meant to be uniform - they breathe, contract, expand. Each one demands its own space on the page. Rather than force them into an ill-fitted standard format, I embraced their chaos.
To capture the energy of the piece, I had to get creative with composition and timing. Even the artefacts from scanning - visible print dots and remnant text - were embraced to add layers of texture to the final piece.

Puppet Master's Playground
With nothing but the individual frames from the comic to work off of, I had to find a way to create movement within the panels.
The real energy came from synchronising camera movements with character action; as figures lunged, ran, or fought, the camera became their dance partner.
Animarathon
Driven forward by no external deadline but my own determination to see the project through, I averaged one second of animated footage daily over six months. Each day brought new challenges and discoveries as the project grew far beyond its intended scope.
The payoff? Having my work shown at the OneDotZero Festival to a huge crowd at the Barbican, watching my film play on a cinema screen in front of my friends and peers.

Beyond The Panels
What began as a creative experiment turned passion project opened doors I never expected. The project caught the attention of the original creators, Stephen McNiven and Mark Millar, and earned their enthusiastic approval.
Sometimes, the best projects are the ones that refuse to stay within their original scope - the ones that demand to be made, regardless of the cost in time and sleep. "Badman Silence" stands as a testament to that unstoppable creative drive.
